Dear Social Good Coders!
It’s with huge excitement today that I announce the relaunch of our SocialCoding4Good (SC4G) initiative as Code Alliance! http://www.codealliance.org
I’m writing to you today because you’ve expressed interest either recently or in the past about using your technical skills to make a difference within the SocialCoding4Good community.
As many of you may know, SC4G has been a successful program where we have collaborated with companies, developers, and nonprofits in exciting engagements like hackathons, image description sessions, and more. SC4G has laid a solid foundation upon which we can take it to the next level of programmatic and funding sustainability. As we continue to expand however, we’ve found that our interactions with all three communities must focus on more high-touch engagements. Thus, as individual volunteers, Code Alliance will be asking more from you in terms of testing your skill level and commitment to our open source projects.
If you’re curious to know why we must screen each volunteer more heavily: Read our Blog Post
Today, we invite you to learn more about Code Alliance and get involved. If you have 3 or more years experience in open source development, please join our new GitHub Repository.
Steps to get involved:
1. Go to: https://github.com/CodeAllianceOrg/allianceTime
2. Fork the Repository to your own Repo
3. Edit the README file with your availability
4. Edit the README file with your LinkedIn profile
Once I’ve seen all the Forked Repo’s, I will start matching projects to individuals in late April and early May. As we build out a better volunteer process, please be patient and feel free to communicate directly with me at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
In the meantime, start by visiting our new website here and look out for more exciting announcements soon!
